Culture, Diversity Credited for Managed Eye Care Company Success

Tampa, Fla. (July 30, 2020) — Florida Trend magazine has recognized Premier Eye Care in its renowned “Best Companies to Work For” list for the eighth year in a row.

For the second consecutive year, Premier, a leader in national managed eye care, ranked as the No. 1 midsize company statewide. Only a handful of companies have accomplished this since the program’s inception more than a decade ago.

Premier earned this prestigious ranking after a review of company policy, practices and demographics. Associates across Premier responded to a questionnaire focused on leadership, planning, culture, communication, work environment, training, pay and overall engagement.

“The foundation of our business is the triple bottom line — people, planet, profit,” said Lorna Taylor, president and CEO of Premier Eye Care. “By prioritizing our people — our team — Premier has minimized attrition, retaining top industry leaders and decreasing operational costs associated with hiring and training. The stability of our workforce directly impacts the level of expertise and the savings we can offer our health plan partners.”

Since being founded more than two decades ago, Premier has maintained its steadfast focus on culture and building a team diverse in age, race and experience. This has resulted in a less than 2 percent annual turnover compared to the standard 22 percent in its industry. The company also credits this focus for many of its other accolades, including being named one of the 75 “Best Places to Work for Millennials,” being listed a “Top 500 Business” by the Business Observer along with numerous community diversity and leadership recognitions.

“The talent and strength across this team is what has helped Premier thrive, even during this pandemic,” Taylor added. “The team’s tenure and diversity elevated solutions, increased morale and allowed us to successfully continue operations virtually.”

In addition to shifting all day-to-day operations virtually during this time, Premier created a VirtualHUB to offer important resources and to maintain team member engagement. This virtual collaboration space has continued to grow as a place for associates to learn and engage as a team. Premier Eye Care has more than 100 associates across the organization’s locations in Tampa, Florida; Boca Raton, Florida; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

The “Best Companies to Work For” program was created by Florida Trend and Best Companies Group and is endorsed by the HR Florida State Council. Best Companies Group managed the registration, survey and analysis and determined the final ranking.
